1) The Exterior
The first thing a potential home buyer will see is the exterior of the home. This presents a great opportunity to make an excellent first impression. An inviting yard will immediately make the home more desirable.

Get rid of any trash or debris in the yard and keep the lawn mowed and edged. A well kept lawn is a must. Trim the hedges and pull the weeds. Mulch the flower beds, and if you don't have flowers consider investing in some.

2) The Kitchen
The kitchen is the first place that a potential buyer will look. For many cultures life revolves around the kitchen, and many women still consider the kitchen as one of the most important factors when deciding on one house over another.

If the kitchen is small or dark give the cabinets a touch up with a light finish. A bright finish on your cabinets makes the kitchen appear more open and brighter.

The focal point of the kitchen is the kitchen sink. Particularly if you have an older sink, with a single or shallow basin, replacing the sink is a must. Invest in a double basin, deep sink. Undermount kitchen sinks add style to the kitchen, they are sleek and bold. Stainless steel kitchen sinks have a modern look and are very practical.

Both can be found at retailers that offer discount kitchen sinks, saving you money on the project. Installing these sinks will give your kitchen a modern and gorgeous, yet practical feel.

Finally, in the kitchen redo the countertops by purchasing a small three inch roller and applying two coats of catalyzed epoxy. If the counters appear worn this will make them look like new and give them the appearance of a textured surface.

3) Interior Walls
Sometimes cleaning the walls simply isn't enough. A fresh painting is always a good idea and will make your walls look like new. To get started patch up any dents or holes no matter how small. Caulk all cracks and run a small bead of caulk on top of the base boards. Damp finger wipe the bead to get a smooth finish.

Two coats of paint will always look the best, no matter the quality of the paint. The first coat is a primer, allow it to dry and lightly sand the walls with a 220 grit sandpaper. Use a damp cloth to pick up all the sanding dust. Then apply the second coat. For the best, professional results use two coats of semi-gloss latex paint.

Wood trim and cornicing will also give the home a modern, classy look. Ceiling trim and armchair railing will compliment the newly painted walls.

4) Floors
Clean the carpets so that they look like new. If you cannot achieve the desired results consider hiring a professional to do them. Perfectly clean, like new carpets will make a huge difference when showing the home.

Hardwood flooring is back in style. If you have carpet and it is worn and beyond cleaning, cut a small piece from a closet corner. If the floor is in good condition you could pull the carpet and refinish the floors. This could very well also save you money.

5) Outlets and Switches
Replace old outlets and switches. New, modern switches can typically be replaced easily and inexpensively using existing wiring. If you are going to do the electrical work yourself remember to shut off the power first.

New switches and outlets add elegance to the home, and make the electrical wiring appear newer than it really is.

Improving these five areas of the home will give you the most bang for your buck, improving the resale value of your home. Additionally, remember to keep the home clutter free, it will make the home appear more spacious. Give the windows a good cleaning so that they appear flawless. Put in higher wattage light bulbs so that your potential buyer can see how great everything looks.

If your home is in a hot and humid climate install ceiling fans. These can be very inexpensive and help improve the homes energy efficiency, increasing it's perceived value.

Finally, consider having a professional floor plan company come in and reassess your homes square footage. This can cost a few hundred dollars, but often the home will be assessed higher than what is on record. Since homes sell for hundreds of dollars per square foot this service can easily pay for itself.

Nothing says "style" like crown molding and it's easy to add that decorative touch to one or more rooms in your home. Using Crown, Window Or Baseboard Molding Adds Style To Your Home - Interior Design

Assess the Condition of the Room
1. As well as the addition of crown molding, consider whether or not your base boards need replacing with an appropriate match in size and style.

2. How many windows and doors in the room should have molding added or replaced? Again, consistency of style and size are important.

3. What problems exist in each room that must be overcome?
* Does the ceiling sag? It’s not that difficult to conceal except at the corners, which are more troublesome.

Art Deco Contemporary Style

* Are the corners square? Check the corners with a framing square to learn how bad they actually are.
* Note the location of registers or any other obstacles in the path of your baseboard molding, as well as the crown, door and window molding.

A Better Life Through Interior Decorating

The way your home looks can have an intimate impact on the overall quality of your life.

This is a concept which may not seem obvious at first, and yet when you come to realize what a home really means on a psychological, a functional, and even a spiritual level, the influence which this space has on your life can suddenly become very clear.

One of the major aspects of “the home” is that it is a place where you feel safe to let your guard down. When your mind is in such a state of relaxation, it tends to become more open to the acquisition of ideas, concepts, and to influence from outside elements. This means that the visual and emotional aspects of your home are going to have a rather profound effect on your overall psyche.

Even more than just affecting your mind psychologically, your home is actually a part of how you think of yourself as a person. Everyone has a concept of self, and the way you define that concept in your head is made up of a number of different factors including your job, your family, and even something as innocuous as the way you dress. One of the major factors in this determination is the state of your home. Being the physical center of your personal world, the look and more importantly, the feel of your personal habitat is a major philosophical element in any determination of character.

Since your home has such a deep impact on your personality, you should strive to make it an environment which fosters the kind of person you want to be. If you tend to be anxious and stressed out, getting violently angry at every little setback, you may want to develop a space which is a tranquil paradise of peace and relaxation. However, if you are lethargic and unmotivated, finding it difficult to get up the energy to do almost anything in life, then you may want to try and create a home full of interesting and inspiring elements, bold colors, and invigorating decorative pieces. While these subtle personality effects are powerful, the function of your home has an even more obvious impact on your day to day life. Anyone who has ever lost their keys in a cluttered den knows that the wrong environment at home can have a negative impact on your ability to get things done in life.

master interior design gold imitation

In its simplest form, the home is where you keep all of your possessions. Some of the things you own are worthless, others are priceless, and everything else falls somewhere in between. The problem is that many people don’t have a strategy for incorporating all of these different elements into a space. The result is often chaos, with useless decorative mementos making it impossible to find anything you need, or important functional items being placed in prominent unattractive places so that they will not be lost. This is a problem which could be easily cured by simply getting a little more organized. Your home also affects your function because it is a location you can use for a variety of purposes. You can conduct business meetings there, have an intimate date at home, or throw parties or family reunions where you reconnect with the people you care about. However, your ability to pull off events such as these will be determined largely by the appearance and state of your home. If you are trying to conduct business you will need a space that has a formal air, while throwing a party makes having a home with lots of space and good flow vital.

The function of relationships with other people is actually the most important way your habitat can affect your life. While it is possible to live in isolation, the part of life which has the deepest meaning is when you connect with other people. If the spaces in your home are inviting and make others feel comfortable, it will automatically make your social life easier. Even if you prefer to party at someone else’s place, you will still want to have people over on occasion, even if it is just to meet. When they get there, their concept of who you are will be affected by the way you live, almost as much as your own is.

The home is an environment that exerts an enormous amount of influence over how you live your life. Luckily, you can control this environment, making decorative and functional changes as your goals change from day to day. In this way you can exert a subtle influence over the world around you, and yourself, through the simple application of a little interior decorating.

Living Room

A living room, also known as sitting room, lounge room or lounge (in the United Kingdom and Australia), is a room for entertaining guests, reading, watching TV or other activities.

Do you need office decorating ideas for your home business? Here they are! Having a workplace at home takes adequate planning, time and effort. Don’t worry, we know what we’re talking about. We work at home, too...just like you!

This web site will not only provide you with decorating ideas, but ways to create a productive work environment within the walls of your own house or apartment.

With more and more people starting to work at home, the need for office decorating ideas keeps growing. But where is the best place to start?

First you need space.

Identify how much space you need and how much you have available for your home business.

For some, a simple desk in the corner of a kitchen is enough. Many others need a light, spacious room to work at home. But, how big are the pieces of office furniture you plan to use? Are there sufficient electrical sockets in the room for lighting and for cable or wi-fi internet connections? Do you have enough filing cabinets for organizing your paperwork? Do you need space for storing inventory or other home business necessities?

If you’re living in an apartment and there’s only one cramped room available, you might just need some office decorating ideas.

Why not paint the walls white and using a large mirror to open up the space? Also, try to decorate with lighter colors. Darker colors will make the room feel smaller and more closed in. Make sure to plan for the possibility of needing a larger space in the near future, too! Think big!

Always decorate the walls with care.

Framed art prints and posters work best when related to your business, especially if you have client meetings at your home office. Also, if inspirational quotes or stories help keep you going, frame them and hang them up! Use your favorite colors and your favorite types of decor. Make your home office feel special to you!

Ensure clients don't have to cross your living room, kitchen or nursery before entering your home office. And of course, make sure you have comfortable chairs that fit the style of your office, along with idea-inspiring industry reading material should clients need to wait to speak with you.

Have bottled water, juice and coffee on a nice serving tray ready for enjoyment. It doesn't take much to have these little niceties ready, and image counts!

Even though you work at home, you're still running a business and clients expect an accomodating environment.

Stylish clocks, calendars, chalkboards are great office decorating ideas for any home business. If you don't have a lot to spend on office furniture, at least spend alittle more on your office accessories such as your desk lamp, desk chair (for your comfort), and other office supplies. They'll help keep your workplace contemporary-looking.

Keeping up with technology is also necessary for any home business. If your clients can see your work area, these tips are especially important. Once again, image counts!

Create a relaxing, but professional atmosphere without any distractions.

Office Decorarion Interestin Idea
Interior Design Office Working environnement
Office Decorarion Interestin Idea

Most small business owners spend more time in their home office than in any other room in their house.

A good view and relaxing colors (blue, purple, green) can be very comforting.

Clutter is distracting. A clean, neat and efficient home office will improve your productivity when you work at home.
But don't forget to inject just as much love into decorating your workplace as you would in decorating any other room in your house. Have fun creating a comfortable, efficient, and client-friendly (if necessary) area for your home business!

Interior Design Styles

Knowing a variety of interior decorating styles will definitely help you create a unique look and feel to your home!

Whether it's Japanese or Italian, cottage style or western, you're sure to find one style...or quite a few to your liking.

Fashion trends come and go with the season. And the same goes for trends in decoration, but luckily not with the same speed. After all, who would want to re-decorate his or her entire home every three to six months?

Right now warm colors are the dish of the day - and of tomorrow, according to experts.

They flourish when incorporated in a rustic cottage style. Cushions with floral fabrics combine well with white furniture in graceful lines. The combination creates an intimate, primary, cozy and romantic atmosphere. Imagine what it could do to your home!

Also very romantic is the Tuscan style that combines natural materials and warm, earthy colors creating a very cozy home, even if you're an accidental visitor.

Tuscans often use ceramic objects, love large dining tables - you'll understand why once you know their cuisine - and terra-cotta tile floors.

Completely different is the clean Scandinavian look.

Square sofas, streamlined accessories and bold colors: this modern style refers to the Fifties, but has become so timeless that we expect it will stay "in" for many years to come.

And then, there's feng shui. Not really a style, but a taoist practice that achieves harmony with the environment and reflects the personality of the occupant, leading to happiness and peace of mind. Nothing is coincidencal with feng shui. It's certainly worth reading about!

Feng shui comes from China, and the subtle Asian way of looking at the world - also reflected in the Zen style - has had a major influence on interior decorating styles. Think about Japanese home decoration, for example, and how bamboo and tapestries can make your home look completely different.

Not enough adventure?

Why not combine some (or even all) of these interior decorating styles? This will lead to an eclectic style that no one has, but you!

By the way, there are no clear definitions or fixed guidelines for most interior decorating styles. They're more like a set of characteristics. Choose what you like, get the right materials and furniture, and off you go!

We’ll do our best to keep you up-to-date on all the latest trends. So make sure to stop back often.

Interesting drapes, a cool clock, or a visually-stimulating bookcase all work well. Use symmetry for a quiet overall calm, or less symmetry for a more flexible, free feeling. Use the dining room set as the focal point of the room.

Rugs add warmth and often make rooms seem smaller, creating a cozy ambiance. Area rugs are best when used on hard flooring surfaces. Choose your colors wisely. Allow the rug to showcase your accent colors.

* Think of your privacy.

Make sure your family time at the dinner table remains private. Keep out those nosey neighbors or any other distractions! Possible solutions include drapes, blinds, and non-glaring windows.

* Maintain good lighting.
